Davao Love and Jump

Last October 21, Aldrin and I left for Davao to attend Raffy and Christine's wedding. Raffy is my friend since high school. From Manila, we landed in Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday to meet my family. Friday at 3am, we left CDO and headed to Davao. The bus trip was excruciating. The trip should only be 6 hours but we arrived Davao after almost 9 hours of travel. The roads leading to Davao isn't really good.

We arrived lunch time in Davao, checked in at Enrico's Apartelle. We took some rest and went to a grocery shopping after our dinner. The rest of the night was spent Aldrin teaching my friends how to play poker.

Day 2 was spent for the wedding. The ceremony was at St. Francis Assisi in the other side of Ma-a road near the Diversion Rd. By the way, Enrico's Apartelle was also in Ma-a but at the opposite side of the church near NCCC Mall. The reception was held at Sunny Point. It's just about 300 meters from the church. So near!

Saying goodbye
Overall, it was a fun vacation. I would definitely love to go back to Maxima. I super enjoyed the jumps and slides.

Movie Review: No Other Woman

I’ve noticed a few weeks back that there’s a serious trending in movies and teleseryes. One way or another, it’s somehow involves a mistress or “kabit”. There’s The Fierce Wife, The Temptation of the Wife, My Neighbor’s Wife and the much hyped No Other Woman.

No Other Woman is a movie about a couple, Ram and Charmaine (Derek Ramsay and Christine Reyes), whose marriage was shaken when Ram met Kara (Anne Curtis), the daughter of his client and his father’s ex-business partner. He met her when she was riding her jetski and almost hit him while swimming in the water. Then they became friends. Very good friends. There’s no denying that Kara was attracted to Ram. Albeit very wary at the beginning, he gave in to her when she agreed to be involved with him despite him being married. But the deal was there’s no supposedly strings attached. To cut the story short, Kara fell in love with Ram and became an official mistress. Then the drama started when Charmaine found out that her husband has an affair with Kara.

The story ended when Ram woke up from a car accident with Charmaine on his side. Then Kara apologized and asked for forgiveness from Charmaine. Kara fled to New York. A few years after, the three met again in Mercato Centralle but this time with peace and smile on their faces. Of course, Ram has to carry a baby boy.

So here are my comments about the movie:

Anne’s makeup was awful. She used a lot of “pink” on her face but it was way too much that she looked pale. She didn’t have much foundation also to cover her freckles.

Christine Reyes and Derek Ramsay were terrible actors. Although Christine’s acting has improved, Derek remains the same. No tears, pilit ang scenes.

The baby. I bet they spent too much on the props (ehem special mention to faves: YSL bag, LV Palermo bag, Margiela shoes and lots of diamonds) that they ran out of budget for the baby’s talent fee.
What i like about the movie is that the characters really did justice on the story. I am not a fan of mistresses (who would?) but this movie showed the real side of a mistress. Most often than not, they're misunderstood. I see now that mistresses have insecurities. And like any other girls/ humans who fall in love, they also get hurt. I dunno why in this movie, I felt the pain of the mistress than the wife’s. I cried in that scene when Kara hid herself in a hall way crying when she saw Charmaine arriving at the hospital. I also cried when she said goodbye to Ram.  I felt for the mistress maybe because, the  movie really didn't do much on the wife's character. In short, the wife just did what she's supposed to do - cry, fight with husband, fight back, make love, etc.  This movie also showed how weak the guys can be. Even when the husband swore that he’ll be loyal, he gave in to the mistress.

The movie was done with no exaggeration. Everything is realistic, genuine and authentic.

My other comments: It could have been better if Angelica Panganiban played the role of the wife and Derek as the husband.

John Lloyd could be the husband and Bea Alonzo could be the wife.

KUDOS to ANNE because she was really convincing in this movie.

The movie is good, not great. It’s very predictable. Of course, this is not what I call a high caliber movie. But I am happy with its ending . I was happy that this movie was fair to the three parties.

The wife is always the winner.

The husband never leaves his wife.

The mistress always has to be the one who’s broken.

Camille Prats's husband dies of cancer

This news really made me sad today.

I love Camille. I follow her on Twitter. Her tweets are so positive she doesn't seem to have such struggle at home.

Her husband died of throat cancer this morning at age 31. Yes, 31 years old. And Camille is now a widow at 26 years old, left with a 3 year old son.

I never thought her fairytale would be shortlived. They got married in Civil Rites last January 5, 2008 and twenty days after their wedding, she gave birth to their son. The got married again in a lavish church ceremony March 5 of last year. Then this year, he left her.

Baby Questions

I get a lot of them ever since I got married. At first, it was fine to answer each and every question but as you go along, it gets irritating. Not to mention, some comments are down right rude and insensitive. People don’t realize they’re hitting below the belt.

“Are you pregnant yet?”

“Why not?”

“Baog ka ba?”

“Nahirapan ka bang magbuntis?”

“Naku, kelangan mo ng mabuntis. Alam mo na, tumatanda na tayo. Yung eggs natin…”
WTF? The truth is, I am really getting tired of answering these questions. Most of the time, I want to slap or punch their faces. I already told my husband about this and how annoyed I am every time they ask me these questions. His answer was “Wag kang mapikon. Mais-stress ka lang. Hayaan mo sila.”

Ok now, for the record, let me answer your questions. Me and my husband both decided not to have a baby yet. Not until we are stable, financially capable, ready and for me, can take a rest from traveling.  There.
this lovely baby has yet to be made
Finances
there goes my budget for shopping
Money is important in a family. It makes our lives comfortable. Money is used to buy and pay for things. We buy food, we buy water, we pay for our house, our utilities, our other needs, wants, etc. my husband and I have stable jobs. We make more than an average Filipino family earns. But we also have our lifestyle. We love going out, travel, watching movies, eat out and once in a while, spoil ourselves. Therefore, most of our salary goes to whatever we spend to make us comfortable.

When my husband I talked about having a baby, we figured out that some of our “loves” would have to be sacrificed.  Most of our salary would probably go to diapers, milk, vaccines, yaya, baby clothes and baby cutie stuff.  That’s probably 40% of our total household budget. Aray!

Time
look at Miranda Kerr's supermodel eyabags
My husband and I love to spend time with each other. We are selfish when it comes to our time. We love being together in one place at the same time. We usually stay in our house, watch tv, dvd, be lazy all day, cuddle, kiss, have sex and whatever things our body can do during our free time. If we have a baby, we’ll say “Hello” to sleepless nights. We’ll probably take turns in changing the diaper, feeding the baby, watching the baby and what not. That’s just a whole lot of time being apart from each other. And it makes me sad. L

Our traveling

my husband could be this guy

or my baby can bring her own stuff
You all know I love to travel. And when I travel, I always tag my husband along. On an average, I travel six to eight times a year. Why? Because that’s how I maintain my sanity. I easily get bored at work so when I want to de-stress, I go out of town. Now, if I get pregnant, I’d probably stay in the city for nine agonizing months. I dread that day! And if we have a baby, my traveling will be put on hold for at least three years. Well, they say I can still travel even if I have an infant. Guess what, I hate traveling with babies. When I’m on a plane or bus, I easily get irritated with crying and screaming babies on board. I would not take that responsibility of shutting the baby up when it’s my own who’s causing disturbance with other people. Not. Just. My. Thing. Also I’ve traveled with people carrying their babies and they can’t seem to have fun because they just end up in the hotel room feeding the baby and putting the baby to sleep while we were out on the beach having good food, cocktails and swim. Oh no!

Well, I have a whole lot of reasons not to have a baby. But of course, I want to have one. Not to mention my hubby is making kulit na that we get pregnant. In fact, I am reading mommy and baby stories already. I already researched on birthing experiences, hospital rates, good OB’s and the rest. We wished to get pregnant sometime next year.  I will get ready to be pregnant on our first shot. That’s why as early as now, we are watching our diet, try to have more exercise and be healthy.

we'll be this mom and baby soon
I don’t mean to say that babies are pain in the ass. They are cute. I love babies but taking care of them is a whole different story. Maybe, I am saying all these things now because I don’t have maternal instincts yet. Or maybe, it’s just the independence in me speaking out. I am not used to having someone dependent on me. I admit, it’s my fear. My baby will be very dependent on me and I will be very attached to her. Oh my. I fear that I will grow deeply in love with her that I could not go to work anymore and develop fears for her.

Oh shoot! Just by writing this entry makes me more worried. Scratch it. I will not worry about it for now. I will enjoy my remaining days of being a sexy wife. And when I get preggers next  year, you all will know it because I am going to be blogging away my momma-hood!

Would I like to go back on being single again?

I stumbled upon a question for married people that says “Given a chance, would you rather go back in being single?”, my answer is a big NO. I love being married! And I am lucky to have been married to one of the most fascinating guys I’ve known.

I think the question next is “Do I miss being single?”. My answer is NO. Why? Because I am still enjoying it. Sans the flirting, of course. And oh, for the record, I was never a flirt. Trust me. It was never my habit and to be honest, I don’t know how to flirt. Or maybe, I am not just flirt at all because I am pretty much straight forward. Going back to the topic, YES, I still enjoy things that single women do even when I am married. And that’s when you say I am very lucky with my husband. And by the way, I am the only married girl in our group without a baby. Well, there's two of us married - Me and Natalie. But Nat has baby Nate so she's become a mom now. She's got other priorities. So that leaves me to a pool of single ladies with mostly no boyfriends. Cool!
You see, when I was still single, I love to hang out with my friends, go on drinking sessions, party and travel. Guess what, I still enjoy them now. Well, a little bit. I enjoyed those stuff when I was still in my home town CDO where my family and friends are. I was very much liberated then.  But I when I moved here in Manila, things have turned around a 180 degrees. I became a home buddy. It’s probably because I started working in night shift and oh boy, working in that shift really consumes you up. I always get tired and sleepy. So even during my days off, I spent it sleeping. But I never fretted, I still have the moves in me, it’s just that I get so tired easily. That’s why when I have time to go home in CDO for parties, I still can… with my husband’s permission, of course.
my last day of being single - my bridal shower
I am lucky with my marriage and husband.  My husband is as liberated and as open minded as I am. He knows me very well. He knows that I don’t want to be controlled, that I am ambitious, and I am a free spirit. Never did my husband tried to stop me in doing things I love.  My husband would even encourage me to pursue on other things such as going back to school again, surfing, enrolling in dance class, etc. He’s simply the best! When I go home to my hometown, sometimes, I tend to forget to text him and inform him my whereabouts and he’s just okay with it because he knows I am just simply having fun.
my husband being makulit during the ceremony
A few months ago, I got an invitation by my friends to go on a vacation in Macau. I, first, declined because I scrimped on my budget for this year. But it was my husband who convinced me to join the girls. He said, it rarely happens that a barkada would go out of the country for a vacation.  Sure enough, I was in the group and I totally enjoyed my trip.
me and my friends at the Tsim Sha Tsui station in Hong Kong
Another thing that I still enjoy now is going trips alone. I love traveling alone. It gives me an ultimate sense of independence. I feel invincible when I travel alone. This is the max of my “me time” that I always ask from my husband. Sometimes, I leave the house solo but joins into another group of friends. I like that, too.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that enjoying the perks of a single woman while being married is just an icing on the cake.  Yes, I got lucky with my husband because I chose to be lucky. I found him. I would not have married him if not for his better judgment for myself.  The reason why I wanted to be in my marriage because I know we love each other. I love my man. I love everything about him even if sometimes he’s really annoying. But that’s marriage for us. It’s the imperfections that make us perfect.  Marriage makes a better definition of my life right now. I love that waking up every morning I know that somebody out there (maybe beside me, in the kitchen, in the shower or in the office) loves me. I love that any minute of the day I can get a message from a special someone. Most of all, I love to pray everyday and include my husband in my prayers. And I just don’t pray for “me” but for “us.
one year in our marriage. still happy and strong.
Every marriage is different. If you ask that same question to another person, his/her answer will be very different from mine. Others may be vague, absurd, funny, and ridiculous, but hey, who cares! It’s their marriage, not ours. Everyone is  unique and same goes with marriage.

I am so back!!!!!

I've been tad late in updating this blog. Oh, scratch it. That's an understatement.

The only reason why I've been lazy in blogging these past few months is because of our crappy internet connection. Yes, the Sun USB dongle that supposedly gives us fast connection (as per their commercial) is making everything online sluggish. Although we're on postpaid, we felt that it's no longer worth the money that we're paying every month.

Then just this afternoon, Globe finally installed our DSL. Woohoo! Guess what, we've got a free wireless modem! This makes me more excited since I will be blogging out soon in the comfort of my bed. Yahoo!!!

So dear followers, I am sooooo back!

Exhausted

... is maybe the word that describes my state for the past few days. I've been working my ass off since a teammate has been absent for two weeks now. It's all shitty because his workload has been added to mine.

I'm just sooo tired. Really.

I'll have a better post soon. Promise!

All About You: 10 Ways To Love Yourself

I found a great article from Femalenetwork and I just thought I'd share this since everyone deserves this.

1. REMIND YOURSELF OF YOUR GOOD POINTS EVERY TIME YOU START TO FEEL DOWN.
Praising yourself doesn’t automatically mean you’re being arrogant. When you’ve done something brilliant, acknowledge your contribution and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. It’s all right to admit your strong points and celebrate them, especially during those times when you’re having a bout of self-doubt.

Besides being an instant mood booster, this also helps you strengthen your belief in yourself long term. Eventually, you will get to that point when you’ll be able to brush off unfounded criticism because you know you’re better than what people may make you out to be.

2. KEEP YOUR PROMISES TO YOURSELF.
Find the lines you won’t cross, and don’t allow yourself to compromise on these. That is, once you set boundaries for yourself, adhere to them, because doing otherwise would be unfair to you, and perhaps others as well.

For example, if you've decided that, in your heart, you could never forgive a guy who cheats on you and subsequently decided that if ever your man did, you'd leave him, follow through if he does. By allowing yourself to forgive and forget when you specifically promised yourself that was your limit, you’re only cheating yourself and dragging out a relationship that may be tainted by your resentment. Recognize when something isn’t right, and make decisions that are good for you. In the end, you're the only one who can take charge of your own emotional welfare.

3. ALWAYS TAKE SOME TIME OUT FOR YOURSELF TO DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE.
No matter how busy you are, make sure to schedule a time to indulge in the things you love doing. During these periods, don’t think about your problems at work or how difficult it is to balance your monthly household budget.

Instead, focus on yourself, on your wants and needs, and on enjoying what you're doing. Now’s the time to pay attention to your passions and express yourself. If you’ve always wanted to be a dancer, take a class. If your hobby is painting, bring out a canvas and watercolors. By giving yourself the freedom to just be, you’re acknowledging that you’re proud of who you are and also giving yourself space to relax and enjoy.

4. LEARN TO ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS.
When someone praises you, acknowledge the compliment. Avoid downplaying your role in a project or saying, “It was nothing,” especially when you know what your colleague or friend is saying is true. While humility is a great trait to have, you can be modest without looking down on yourself.

If you’re uncomfortable with praise or feel like you’re being egotistical by recognizing the compliment, just practice saying a simple thank you. You can also make it a point to pay it forward and acknowledge anyone else who might have done a good job as well or who helped you achieve whatever you're being praised for.

5. FORGIVE YOURSELF.
It’s already hard enough dealing with other people’s criticism, but if you also berate yourself for every mistake you commit, then you’re going to have a hard time picking yourself up afterward.

Sometimes, you might even find yourself turning a small mistake into something major in your head. When that happens, you become your own worst critic, and you’ll keep looking back, regretting your mistake, and thinking of what you should have done instead. At times like these, remind yourself that nobody's perfect and that just because you've had poor judgment once or twice (or even a few times), it doesn’t mean you’ll be wrong for the rest of your life--or that you should continue to punish yourself for it. Learn from the experience, and move on.

6. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU.
Stay away from naysayers because they’ll only make you feel bad about yourself. After prolonged exposure to them, you might even start believing them too. Instead, surround yourself with positive thinkers, people who can encourage you and make you see how wonderful you already are. This doesn’t mean you should just be friends with people who only talk about your good points. Your real friends will know how to give good criticism too, so listen only to the people you trust.

7. LIVE IN THE MOMENT.
If you worry too much about the future and what other people think, you’ll find yourself missing out on opportunities to make yourself happy. While thinking about the consequences of your actions is all well and good, being too cautious also hinders your self-growth.

Take risks, and embrace the present. You could be wallowing in self-pity because you hate your job, but you’re afraid to quit out of fear that you won’t find another. You might want to study abroad, but you aren't really proactive about finding a scholarship or about saving up for it. You can only make things happen for you if you take the steps yourself. Don’t compromise your happiness because you’re afraid to try.

8. HAVE A POSITIVE MINDSET.
No matter how many times you try to convince yourself that you’re worthy of being loved, it won’t work if you don’t believe in yourself first. Practice confidence-boosting exercises regularly.

Not sure where to start? Here are some things you can do: List one thing you love about yourself on a note every day and stick it somewhere you can see it, like on a corner of your computer screen or in your wallet. In fact, why not buy a glass-writing pen and scrawl your "happy me" thought onto your mirror as part of your morning ritual? Stand in front of the mirror in your favorite outfit, and tell yourself your jeans make your thighs look amazing. Little things like these will eventually contribute to a better self-image as time passes by.

9. SEEK YOUR OWN APPROVAL.
You don’t need to actively seek acknowledgment from other people to make you feel good about yourself. What matters is that you believe that what you’re doing is good for you.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t recognize it when someone you love supports your decisions. It just means that you should let approval come to you naturally and not worry yourself over whether or not you should do something based on someone else’s opinions. For example, if you’re set on changing careers, but you feel like your parents won’t approve, look at the bigger picture and weigh the feelings behind your desire and anything that opposes it. Do you want to make the change because the new career is something you're passionate about? Are your parents disapproving just because they're worried it'll make it harder for you to secure your lifestyle?

10. EMBRACE YOUR FLAWS.
Accepting yourself for who you are is the first step to loving yourself. Your quirks make you who you are, and once you acknowledge them, you’ll see that they make you beautiful too.

Perhaps you have problems accepting yourself because you didn’t like the person you were in the past. Take a trip down memory lane—even if it hurts—and look at your mistakes from a different angle. Ask yourself: if they didn’t happen, would you be the better person that you are now? Have you learned from your mistakes? Are you already taking steps to make yourself a better person with a bigger heart? Remember to embrace the things that make you who you are (even the negative ones)--but don't wallow in them! Make your weaknesses reasons to be and do better, not reasons to give up on things.

Bacolod Empacho

It was 6am on February 4 and we were waiting to board Zestair for our trip to Bellarocca when Cebu Pacific announced their Piso Fare. Hurray! And as impulsive as I am, I NEED to book a flight to anywhere. And since Aldrin is doing his Starbucks Project, we decided to go to Bacolod. But of course, we are limited to our "piso fare", we got our round trip tickets for only Php360 but for an overnight trip only. Not bad for a challenge though.

Before I start my adventure, I'd like to make a special shoutout to sis aMz of GT for being our virtual guide during our stay in Bacolod. She even gave me inputs even before our trip to keep me more excited! Thank you, sis aMz, for everything! You were such a great help. And we still keep in touch even after our trip. I truly appreciate it. Mwah!

July 19

Our flight is supposedly at 2:45pm but as usual, it was delayed. We took off at 3:20pm. We arrived in Bacolod at about 4:20pm. We went outside and was surprised their airport was neat and not too crowded. You can even see the vans going to Bacolod just right in front of the Arrival gate! We asked around for other ways to reach Bacolod. There's a van service that would cost each person Php120 and there's one for Php100 pesos. But there's the cheapest way, the Nyala Tours. For only Php35, you'd be in Bacolod! Downside though, it's not a Hi-Ace van. It's an L300 sorta van. But no need to worry; If you're a light packer, the trip is comfortable.

We asked the driver to drop us off at Pepsi to have our trip to The Ruins. The trip took us 30 mins. Once in Pepsi, we hailed a tricycle. The driver quoted us Php100 for a round trip plus the wait. I haggled to Php80. Deal Sealed!

Nyala tours - Php35 fare going to Robinsons
The Ruins

After manong driver dropped us off from our Ruins trip, we rode the Bata-Libertad jeepney. The jeepney goes straight to Lacson St. We just asked the driver to drop us off at L' Fisher. We actually stayed in Saltimboca which is just near L'Fisher. Saltimboca is just beside the new Calea which is just right across L'Fisher.

Calea at night

Calea's signature door

Saltimboca was ok. If you're on a budget trip like us, this would be a perfect accomodation. Location-wise, this one's perfect! we paid Php900 for an overnight stay in an airconditioned room with ensuite bathroom and with matrimonial bed. Too bad, our camera was on lowbatt when we arrived at Saltimboca so we got no pictures.

Dinner was at the Manukan. Sis aMz suggested that we eat in Aida's. We ordered pecho, paa, baticolon, isol and oysters. Uhm, the oyster is at Php40 only per plate. So I had two. Aldrin just had one.

Inasal and others

talaba at Php40/plate

We capped the night off at Calea. Yeah, the one beside Saltimboca. Calea was HEAVEN! I could just stare at the cakes for hours. We ordered varities of cheesecakes. Aldrin had brewed coffee too!

A good friend of mine, way back in grade school dropped by. Errol a.k.a Love Radio Bacolod's Diego Lo dropped by before heading to his work. So happy to see him after 13  years!!!!

my long time friend, Errol aka Diego Lo of Love Radio

Aldrin was too tired to even have a bottle of beer at Pepe's so we decided to sleep the night away. At 11pm, we are both asleep.

July 20

We woke up and took a shower then went to Saltimboca's restaurant to have our complimentary breakfast. Aldrin and I just had toasted bread and sausage. Too light from our usual breakfast but we were preparing for a loaded day ahead of us. After breakfast, we took a rest for a while. I actually fell asleep while Aldrin was doing a bit of work on his laptop. Then off we go to Aldrin's project. Starbucks pictorial time!

picture taken almost exactly the same as from the planner

My friend Errol invited us to drop by his station as he was on air until 1pm. We went to Love Radio's station at 12nn. We took off past 1pm and we went to Connie's Cansihan. The lunch was SUPERB!!!! Cansi is like a bulalo with a twist. It's a sour but not too much like sinigang. I since I love sabaw, this one's a winner.

Love Radio's booth

Cansi
Of course, time was precious. Our flight is at 6:55pm and we haven't been to some of the places in our list so off we go for an Amazing Race. After our lunch at Connie's, we had our dessert at Bascon.

After Bascon, we went to Pendy's for pasalubongs!

outside Pendy's before crossing to Cafe Bob's
After Pendy's we chilled at Cafe Bob's. And that's where Errol left us so he could still sleep for his work that night. Aldrin and I relaxed at Cafe Bob's and I was amazed with their paintings for sale and they all come cheap! I wish I had extra money.

creampuff and flavored soda
By 4:30pm, we rode a jeep to Robinson's and beside KFC is the terminal for Nyala Tours. And yes, we reached airport after 30minutes with Php70 fare.

So why the Title? Yes, I had EMPACHO (I think) after this trip. My next stop-over was at Medical City. But of course, that's another story. I would still love to go back to Bacolod... for another food trip.
